PKP PLK invests EUR 40 million for freight lines improvement

pkpPolish Railways plans to modernize the rail freight lines in Silesia, announcing a PLN 170 million (EUR 39.7 million) investment. On Line 169, the company will start works on Tychy – Orzesze Jaśkowice and Tychy – Łaziska sections. The Line 169 is an electrified single-track, designed for freight traffic. In addition, improvement works will include the reconstruction of Gliwice station, and the revitalisation of Sosnowiec Dańdówka – Dabrowa Gornicza Strzemieszyce, Chałupki – Krzyżanowice and  Włoszczowa North – Czestochowa Stradom sections.
Works on Tychy – Orzesze Jaśkowice section involve the replace of tracks on 8 km-long section, the reconstruction and adjustment of overhead line, the replacement of 13 turnouts, the rebuilding of 8 level crossings and 2 pedestrian crossings at Tychy Orzesze Jaśkowice station.
After works completed, freight trains will run at 120 km/h carrying cargoes from Silesia to the North of the country. For this project, PKP PLK will invest PLN 37 million (EUR 8.6 million). Works will begin in Aprilie and will be completed at the end of 2016.
Until now, PKP PLK has allocated PLN 40 million (EUR 9 million) for the revitalisation of Tychy – Orzesze Jaśkowice line. In total 18 km of the line will be reconstructed, including the catenary, 26 crossovers, 21 level crossings and 28 engineering facilities.
