PKP Intercity may obtain EIB financing for fleet renewal

The European Investment Bank has under appraisal PKP Intercity’s rolling stock procurement programme. The total value of the project is EUR 462 million (PLN 2 billion) of which EUR 231 million (PLN 1 billion) is the EIB proposed financing.
The EIB will finance PKP Intercity’s investments for the acquisition of locomotives, passenger coaches and EMUs, as well as the modernisation of rolling stock for passenger connections throughout Poland.
We remind you that recently, PKP Intercity and H. Cegielski – Poznań signed a EUR 14.14 million contract to convert 10 passenger coaches into restaurant cars. In 2018, the two companies signed a PLN 273 million (EUR 64.37 million) contract for the modernisation of 60 coaches and a PLN 473.5 million (EUR 113 million) for the procurement of 55 new carriages.
At the beginning of 2018, PKP Intercity announced its intention to renew its rolling stock fleet, investing EUR 1.6 billion (PLN 7 billion). The Polish rail passenger operator will modernize its fleet through the procurement of at least 10 multisystem electric locomotives, 10 shunting locomotives and installation of ERTMS/ETCS onboard devices on EU44 series locomotives. In addition, the company will complete the acquisition process of 12 new electric locomotives, the modernisation of 34 electric locomotives (14 ED74 series and 20 EU/EP07 series of electric locomotives) and 13 SM42 shunting locomotives.
