PKP announces EUR 112 million tender for Lodz rail junction

pkpPolish State Railways, PKP PLK, has announced the tender for the rehabilitation of Lodz Kaliska – Zduńska Wola rail section, as part of suburban rail network rehabilitation project. The project is estimated at PLN 480 million (EUR 111.8 million) and will contribute to the improvement of Lodz Railway Junction connections.
The project involves the modernisation of 42 km of Lodz Kaliska – Zduńska Wola line, the rehabilitation of 5 flyovers, 12 railway bridges and 12 culverts, and the construction of a new bridge. The project will provide greater safety, efficient transport services and better connections for rail passenger transport. After the completion of the project, the speed of passenger trains to 120 km/h, reducing timpe traver on this section by 15 min.
The announced project is one of the 10 projects submitted by PKP PLK under the CEF second call. Works are scheduled to be completed in 2018.
“The announced tender is one of our steps to improve rail travel within the Lodz Railway Junction. This will integrate urban transport and railways, and support commuting to school and work. The modernized railway infrastructure will relieve traffic in Lodz and within urban centers and building integrated interchanges,” Ireneusz Merchel president of PKP PLK said.
