NSW released 10 options for Newcastle LRT

NSWTransport for New South Wales revealed 10 options for future Newcastle Light Rail system that include links to to suburbs such as Mayfield, Merewether, Adamstown and a loop through the Hunter Street Mall.
“This is the first look at potential routes for an expanded light rail network to connect major activity centres and suburbs in Newcastle,” Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Scot MacDonald said.
Major construction would start early next year and services would start in 2019.
This January, NSW has opened registrations of interest for companies to design and build the AUD 510 million (USD 38 million) the light rail system.
Following completion, the light rail will run east from the new Wickham transport interchange along the existing rail corridor, before moving south to connect with Hunter Street and Scott Street and terminating at Pacific Park.
