Newag delivered the first Impuls 2 EMU to Ferrovie del Sud Est

Puglia Regional Councillor for Transport, Giovanni Giannini, has presented the new electric ETR 322 Impuls 2 EMU manufactured by Newag, which will enter commercial operation starting mid-September on Ferrovie del Sud Est railway network.
The EMU will serve the completely-renewed tracks of the Bari-Putignano (via Casamassima) line. it is the first of the 18 latest-generation trains that will gradually replace the diesel trains currently in circulation, bringing advantages in terms of efficiency, environmental quality and comfort when travelling.
The new ETR three-car train is 59 metres in length is able to travel at a maximum speed of 120 km/h. Designed according to modern safety, comfort and accessibility standards, it has 175 seats, including two places for mobility-restricted passengers, four bicycle carriers, one bathroom and large shelves for luggage. The train is equipped with internal LED-lit information displays, mobile platforms to facilitate access for people with reduced mobility, a video surveillance system, air conditioning and sound system.
The electric train will enter services tanks to a radical renewal of 48 km and the restoration of the electrification.
In 2015, Ferrovie del Sud Est and Newag signed a contract for the supply of 5 three-car EMUs with options for up to 10 more trains and this May, the option was exercised for further 6 three-car Impuls 2 EMUs valuated at EUR 24.2 million.
