New tunnel breakthrough for Delhi Pink metro Line

new delhiDelhi Metro (DMRC) achieved a tunnel breakthrough at Naraina by completing the tunneling on the under construction Delhi Cantt – Narina Vihar- Mayapuri of the Majlis Park – Shiv Vihar corridor (Pink Line). DMRC completed the tunneling on the Kashmere Gate – Lal Qila stretch of the Central Secretariat – Kashmere Gate Corridor by achieving a tunnel breakthrough of the second tunnel on the stretch.
The TBM emerged at Lal Qila metro station site after making a 1352 metre-long tunnel from Kashmere Gate. This TBM was lowered at Kashmere Gate shaft on February 2015 and after assembly of the TBM below the ground the initial drive began on April 2015. The maximum depth of the tunnel is 16 mts below the earth’s surface.
The Pink Line consists of 38 metro stations from Mukundpur in Delhi to Shiv vihar . On completion the Pink line with a length of 58.59 km will be the longest line in Delhi Metro. It will be mostly elevated and will be covering Delhi in ‘U’ shape. The Pink line has planned interchanges with the Yellow, Red, Blue, Airport Express Line and Violet lines of the Delhi Metro, as well as with the Hazrat Nizamuddin and Anand Vihar Terminal (Indian Railways) and Anand Vihar ISBT and Sarai Kale Khan Inter State Bus Terminal.
The new line is expected to be opened in December 2016.
