A new section for Koralm railway

Built in Austria, the new 130-km long Koralm railway will connect Graz to Klagenfurt. Currently, works are carried out on Werndorf – Klagenfurt section. Moreover, at the middle of August, Austrian authorities decided to add a new section to the Koralm railway, on Graz- Werndorf route, measuring 19 km. Construction works to this new section will begin in 2019.

A new double railway will be built on Graz – Feldkirchen section, parallel to the existing Graz – Spielfeld-Strass railway. From Feldkirchen, the new railway will reach Graz Airport crossing a 3.2-km long tunnel. The tunnel will also have a station for the direct access of passengers inside the airport.

The route will then link to Koralm railway, west of Werndorf. Near Werndorf, there will also be a connection to Graz Süd container terminal, a significant logistics hub on the TEN-T Baltic-Adriatic Corridor.

Project planning nears completion and the railway, which will initially be single-track, is expected to be inaugurated in 2024. The second track will be added during the following phase, when the airport metro station will also be opened.
