New CAF trams operate in Cagliari

Regional public transport operator Arst (Sardinia, Italy) has inaugurated three new CAF – Urbos 3 trams in Cagliari on the San Gottardo-Settimo San Pietro line. The fleet will cover Cagliari and its hinterland with Settimo San Pietro as terminus. This brings the number of trams on the route to nine, the already existent six trams being Skoda O6T. The increase in the fleet will ensure that the trams will be able to operate on the network with a ten minute waiting period, especially at rush hour. At the end of the summer, the route of the new CAF-Urbos 3 trams will be expanded to reach the Argine and Policlinico stations. The new CAF trams have four carriages with a capacity of 237 people and 56 seats. Four wheelchairs and four bicycles can also be transported. The vehicles are accessible for disabled people, thanks to a retractable electric platform under each entrance door. The cars are air-conditioned and equipped with event recorders, traffic light control and turn signals.
