Moscow records 40 million trips on the MCD-3

third Moscow Central DiameterThe third Moscow Central Diameter (MCD-3), inaugurated on August 17, 2023, recorded 40 million trips since its launch, connecting Zelenograd and the Moscow region city of Ramenskoye.

The 85 km long line is served by 38 stations and three more stations will be opened in the future (Malino, Mitkovo and Rizhskaya).

“MCD-3 demonstrated its demand among residents at once. During the first full day of operation passengers of the MCD-3 made 350 thousand trips. For four months of operation the number of trips reached more than 40 million. Passenger traffic increased by 42% in comparison with the period before the launch. The reserve of carrying capacity for decades ahead has been created here,” Maksim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport said.

The rolling stock was updated by the launch, only the latest generation Ivolga 3.0 and modern EP2D trains run on the routes inside the diameter. The new trains are characterised by smooth running, and inside there is everything for a comfortable ride: comfortable seats, more handrails, climate control, places for wheelchairs and bicycles. About 30% of the last generation trains remain on long-distance commuter routes. It is planned to completely renew the rolling stock on MCD-3 by the end of 2024.

Next year, Ivolga 4.0 will be available on the new diameter routes. The new train has retained the best of the previous series: comfortable seats, chargers, the ability to transport bicycles, information boards, climate control and much more. The main difference of Ivolga 4.0 is the number of doors: there are 3 doors in each car, except for the head car. Inside the train there are different colors of headrests and handrails. Outside there is an updated appearance design developed to create a recognisable image of the new Ivolga 4.0. The front part of the train mask was made darker and more laconic.

“Trains have already been completely replaced on the first two diameters, on the MCD-3 we plan to renew them next year, and on the MCD-4 – in 2025. Comfortable trains increase the comfort of travel, also their production allows to create workplaces and develop manufacturing industry,” Maksim Liksutov noted.

With the launch of the third Moscow Central Diameter launch, residents have new routes, convenient ways of fare payment, free interchanges to the metro, MCC and other MCD. The time of free interchange to some routes was increased from 90 to 120 minutes.
