Minnesota approves new tram line concept

After three years of study, the Riverview Corridor’s policy advisory committee approved the future USD 1.4-2 billion transit tram line, which is slated to connect downtown St. Paul to Bloomington. The proposed Riverway Corridor transport route would link St. Paul’s Union Depot to Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and the Mall of America in Bloomington. The goal is to transport riders 19 km within 44 minutes, crossing 20 stations.
The project will complete a “transit triangle” formed by the Blue Line and Green Line between Minneapolis, St. Paul and the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Operation and maintenance is projected at USD 35 million per year.
The project still needs further environmental and engineering work.
