Sistema de Transporte Colectivo (SCT) has confirmed that tenders for the extension of Mexico City’s Metro Line A and Line 12 will be announced during the first half of this year.
The announcement was made by Joel Ortega, General Manager of SCT, during Exporail 2015, an event organised by the Asociación Mexicana de Ferrocarriles (AMF), in Ciudad de Mexico.
The 13km extension of metro Line A will connect La Paz with Chalco and include eight stations which will serve an estimated 314,000 passengers per day. The 4km extension of metro Line 12 will connect Mixcoac to an interchange with Line 1 at Observatorio. Construction on both lines is expected to start this year.
SCT also confirmed plans to launch an international tender for 45 new trains for Line 1 in March, with an estimated cost of Pesos 10.5bn (USD 700m).
