Lithuania: Rail Baltica will reach Kaunas in autumn

Rail BalticaLithuanian Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevicius says that construction of Rail Baltica’s European-standard gauge to Kaunas city is going smoothly and the new railway line should reach Kaunas this autumn, reports LETA/ELTA.
“I expect the European-standard gauge to be completed on time so that this line reaches Kaunas already this autumn. More than 90% of the scheduled tasks have been already completed,” the PM told on the national radio LRT.
The railway construction from the Polish border to Kaunas will cost EUR 380 million, while the entire European-standard gauge line going through Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia will cost from EUR 3.7 billion to EUR 5.2 billion. The section from the Polish border to Tallinn is expected to be built until 2024.
