The liberalisation of the European railway market and the increased internationalisation of passenger and freight traffic ask for a different approach of investments in rail assets. Investment decisions need to be made taking into account whole-life and whole-system considerations as well as environmental and economic impact. Life Cycle Management offers the rail sector remarkable opportunities and considerable competitive advantages.

Life cycle management includes the acquisition, utilisation, maintenance and accountability of assets. When a complex and demanding investment decision is being taken, the following aspects already need to be considered (among others):

– Maintainability of the design

– Future technological developments and innovations

– Increase of traffic volume and future operational challenges
– Improved RAMS within the overall system
The present conference offers a one-day podium in order to discuss best practices, tangible tools and current information in an international setting. It is being organised by Graz University of Technology and Europoint.
