LA Metro awards Purple Line third extension contract

Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, LA Metro, intends to award Frontier-Kemper/Tutor Perini JV the contract on Purple Line extension section 3 tunnels project. The value of the contract is USD 410 million.
The project involves the design and construction of twin bored tunnels for future Purple Line metro service spanning approximately 4.2 km between Century City and the VA Hospital in Westwood. The metro extension will provide a high-capacity, high-speed, dependable transit alternative for those traveling to and from Los Angeles’ Westside.
Contract award for the Purple Line extension section 3 tunnels project is expected in the next 30 to 60 days, with notice to proceed anticipated soon thereafter. Substantial completion is anticipated in the summer of 2022.
The construction works for the extension of the first section of LA Purple Line began in 2015 and is anticipated to be completed in 2023. The extension of the second section was launched this year and it should be completed in 2025. The full project includes additional stations at Westwood/UCLA and Westwood/VA Hospital.
Under the three-phase scenario, the Metro Board approved Life of Project (LOP) budget is USD 8.2 billion.
