Knorr-Bremse acquires rail friction know-how from Federal-Mogul

Knorr-Bremse Rail Vehicle Systems has acquired the entire know-how and intellectual property rights for the development and production of friction material from Federal-Mogul3. In turn, Federal-Mogul will receive a back license from Knorr-Bremse, allowing it to continue to supply its own customers with high-quality rail friction materials. An agreement to this effect was signed by the two parties.
Through this acquisition, Knorr-Bremse is further reinforcing its systems expertise and investing in new and improved customer-oriented products. The integrated development of rail braking systems and brake pads will lead to greater deceleration, lower noise emissions and reduced life cycle costs. Customers and the environment will benefit from innovations in this field. In the future, Knorr-Bremse will manufacture these products at its own production site.
“As a result [of the acquisition], across the full life cycle we are able to offer our customers the right product for almost any type of train and using every type of technology – which will also make us industry leaders in quality,” Klaus Deller, Chairman of the Executive Board of Knorr-Bremse AG said.
