Kabataș-Mecidiyekoy-Mahmutbey metro line starts commercial service in 2018

The excavation works up to Tekstilkent completed for the 24.5 km long and 19 stations Kabataş-Mecidiyeköy-Mahmutbey metro line 7 in Istanbul.

Istanbul  Mayor Kadir Topbaș stated that the metro line will be opened towards the end of 2018.

”When the Kabataş-Mecidiyeköy-Mahmutbey Metro line opens, towards the end of 2018, people can reach to Kabataș from Mahmutbey in a quick and comfortable way in 31,5 minutes. We have completed the excavation work by combining the tunnels extending from Mecidiyeköy to Tekstilkent. 75.5 percent of the total excavation work is completed”, Mayor Topbaș said.

“The cost of Kabataș-Mecidiyeköy-Mahmutbey Metro line is TRY 3.7 billion (USD 1 billion). This 24.5-kilometer line will carry 1 million passengers a day. People from Bağcılar Mahmutbey will reach Kabataș in 31.5 minutes and save time and fuel. Today, close to 3 million people in Istanbul are using the rail transport system. Our goal is to make 11 million people in 2019 able to use the rail system. This metro line will be integrated with 8 districts as Beyoğlu, Beşiktaş, Şişli, Kagithane, Bağcılar, Eyüp, Gaziosmanpaşa and Esenler. In 4 months this new metro line will be integrated with other metro lines. From Mahmutbey to Alibeyköy Esenler and Bağcılar citizens will have access to the sea and will be able to walk to Üsküdar by foot from underground”, Mayor Topbaș added.

The line in Kabataş will go towards Karaköy and merge with Şişhane Metro Station via walking on the surface. On the other hand, the line from Sarıyer’dan Beșiktaș, in the Anatolian side of Üsküdar beach in Beykoz is in the project phase, according to the Mayor of Istanbul.

Until May 2017, Istanbul Municipality will open the part of Üsküdar-Ümraniye-Çekmeköy metro, which is under construction and the part up to Çekmeköy in August 2017.

At Kabataș station the line will be integrated with the Taksim Funicular and Eminönü-Kabataş tram line, at Mecidiyekoy station the line will be integrated with the Yenikapı-Hacıosman metro line. Further, in the Black Sea neighborhood the metro line will be integrated with Topkapı- Sultançiftliği metro line and at Mahmutbey station the Bağcılar (Kirazlı) –Başakşehir metro line will be integrated.
