Jakarta North-South MRT tunnels completed

Indonesian President Joko Widodo has announced that the first phase of the Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) North-South Line tunnel has been completed.
“The MRT is scheduled to be operated on March 2019. However, the MRT is expected to be ready for the 2018 Asian Games,” the president said.
The 15.7 km section is part of Jakarta MRT North-South Line, from Lebak Bulus to Kampung Bandan in North Jakarta with a total length of 23.8 km.
The North-South Line is expected to accommodate 433,000 passengers per day.
The president expected the project to be completed on schedule.
Regarding the budget to fund this project, President Jokowi said that the project needs huge budget that can be sourced from the State Budget (APBN), or from the combination of the State Budget and Regional Budget (APBD), as it was applied to this project. “It also can be sourced from Cooperation between the Government and Business Entities (KPBU), Public-Private Partnership (PPP), or even from the investment. Thus, these combination that we can apply, and it will accelerate Indonesia’s infrastructure development,” the President added.
