Iraq Railways to analise bids for Karbala – Najaf line

Iraq Railways_1390705528_d260e20706_b“The Ministry of Transport has formed a technical committee to study bids presented by national and foreign firms to execute the Karbala-Najaf rail project,” the daily Al-Sabah said, quoting Abdul Sattar Mohsen, director of information at the General Company for the Iraq Railways company, an affiliate of the transport ministry.
He said that the project will be linked later to the central and south rail networks in the country and will be designed for 250-km/h trains.
Earlier this year, the transport ministry said it had asked Ernst & Young (EY) to conduct the financial studies for the project.
The ministry had said that three companies from Iran, Turkey and Romania have submitted bids to construct the rail between the two governorates, and named Yapiray, an affiliate of Istanbul-based Yapi Merkezi, as one of the bidders.
