Indra to deploy contactless ticketing technology for Kuala Lumpur’s metro

kualaMass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) has awarded to Indra, in a consortium with the local company Rasma Corporation, the contract for contactless ticketing technology for Kuala Lumpur’s subway. The value of the contract is 33.2 million euros. Out of five other international groups, the consortium submitted the best bid in technical and commercial terms.

The company will implement its ticketing technology in the MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) line of Sungai-Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya, the second subway line in the Klang Valley region. Indra will handle the engineering, design, development, installation and commissioning of all access control and ticketing technology for the second subway line. This contract includes systems and machines for manual and automatic ticket sales, access control systems, software, the central ticketing system, economic management systems and station control equipment.

The new solution integrates contactless technology. Tickets will be electronic cards for users who travel frequently and tokens (common in Asia) for one-way tickets. Both systems will allow users to validate their cards by simply passing them over the scanner, leading to faster and more convenient access.
