India: rail stations in Southern Region to have CCTV systems

04-indiaClosed circuit television (CCTV) cameras will be installed in all stations belonging to the A1, A, B and C categories in Southern Region utilising money from the Nirbhaya Fund, General Manager Vashista Johri said.
Thirty-two CCTV cameras will be installed on all the four platforms covering their entire length at Erode Junction.
The monitoring of footage will be carried out either at the station itself or in other places where there is Railway Protection Force (RPF) presence.
As for security onboard trains, the helpline number 138 has ensured RPF response to passengers within half an hour, Vashista Johri added.
