Hyundai Rotem to win Kabatas-Mecidiyekoy-Mahmutbey metro tender

Kabatas-metro_kabatasmecidiyekoymahmutbeymetrosu1-e14547636456111Railway PRO at Eurasia Rail: Hyundai Rotem remains the only company in the tender for the 300 metro cars of Kabataș – Mecidiyekoy – Mahmutbey Metro line under construction. The Public Tender Office finalized its assessment about Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s tender opened last July for the 75 sets (4-cars each), railturkey.org informs. All offers except Hyundai Rotem – Hyundai Eurotem’s were excluded from the tender. Hyundai Rotem’s offer is worth EUR 280.2 million and was the second best offer.

Alstom, Bombardier and CRRC (China) also participated in the tender, and CRRC’s was the best with EUR 277.2 million, but the Public Tender Office had rejected the offer of the Chinese company. According to the terms of tender, the first 36 sets has to be delivered between 22 – 38 months after signing contract, and the remaining 39 sets should be delivered between 39 – 58 months.

The 18 km long Mecidiyekoy – Mahmutbey Metro is planned to be completed in 2017, and the 7 km long Kabataș – Mecidiyekoy in 2018.

The entire Mahmutbey – Mecidiyekoy – Kabataș metro line will cost around TRY 3.5 billion (EUR 1.2 billion). Hyundai Eurotem is a joint venture formed by Hyundai Rotem and Turkish Railways (TCDD), which has a plant in Adapazari, next to Tuvasaș. Manufacturing of Marmaray and Izban metro trainsets was completed there. Hyundai Rotem had been awarded three urban tenders in 2015, in Istanbul, Izmir and Antalya.
