Hitachi Rail wins on-board signalling contract in Sweden

On-board digital train controlNordic Re-Finance awarded Hitachi Rail a contract to install the on-board digital train control on the TMe fleet of locomotives operating in Sweden, Norway and Denmark.

The work has already started and the train fleet equipped with the new signalling system is expected to run across the Nordic region to connect passengers and vital good and supplies by early 2023.

The scope of the contract will see Hitachi Rail provide ERTMS and Specific Transmission Module systems (base line 3.6) and related equipment to upgrade 27 TMe diesel-electric locomotives that operate in Scandinavia.

By fitting the latest ERTMS technology to Nordic Re-Finance’s TMe fleet, Hitachi Rail will help Nordic Re-Finance make operations more efficient and reliable by reducing traffic disruption and delays for passengers and freight traffic, while guaranteeing the highest level of safety and availability.

“We are honoured to receive the order to upgrade and deliver the latest on-board digital train control solution to Nordic Re Finance’s fleet of TMe locomotives. The partnership is an outstanding opportunity for Hitachi Rail to support Nordic Re Finance in the development of an innovative and more sustainable solution with high standards of quality, safety and reliability for their customers in the region. The digitisation of their locomotives will help improve the supply of goods across Sweden, Norway and Denmark,”Eric Morand, Vice President, Nordic Region said.

The on-board signalling technology will contribute to the digitalisation of company’s fleet and will also help protect the continuity of goods for consumers and businesses across Sweden, Norway and Demark.

In 2017, the release of the ERTMS Baseline 3 release 2 set of specifications, also called base line 3.6, marked a major step forward for the ERTMS European Deployment plan (EDP) as this release represents a mature and stable version of the system, able to solve any interoperability issues.
