GYSEV receives a new Flirt EMU

GYSEV operator and Stadler introduced the first of 10 Flirt EMUs ordered last year, that will be deployed on Western-Hungary regional lines.
The new 4-car low floor electric multiple units will enter service after the homologation period expected by the middle of 2018. Currently, two Flirt trains are in Hungary for homologation. The first units will enter operation by the middle of 2018, while the tenth FLIRT will start commercial service by January 2019.
The new generation 4-car trains will have 208 seats, two toilets and meet the latest requirements of TSI and crash norms. The length of the new units will be 77.1 meter, 2.8 meter longer than the former Flirt trains, of GYSEV. Their final speed is 160 km/h, and they will be able to reach 120 km/h within 39 seconds. The trains will be equipped with the latest standards of passenger comfort, including bright and multifunctional boarding areas, WIFI, power USB sockets for the charging of laptops, tablets, and mobile phones.
In 2016, GYSEV launched the tender for the acquisition of 10 EMUs, and the contract was awarded to the consortium of Stadler’s Swiss and Polish subsidiaries.
Together with the ten Flirt trains GYSEV procured within the frames of earlier tenders between 2013 and 2015, the railway operator will have a fleet of altogether 20 Flirt EMUs.
