Geneva orders LRVs from Stadler

Tramlink light rail vehiclesGeneva public transport company Transports publics genevois (TPG) and Stadler signed a contract for the manufacture and delivery of 38 Tramlink light rail vehicles and includes an option for up to 25 additional vehicles.

The first light rail vehicles are expected to operate on the tram network in Geneva from the end of 2025 serving the expansion of tram network planned by TPG.

The bi-directional Tramlink vehicles, which are 44 metres long and 2.3 metres wide, can transport up to 250 passengers and are perfectly adapted to the TPG infrastructure.

Each Tramlink tram has a built-in HVAC system that runs on the natural refrigerant CO2. This helps to ensure environmentally friendly operation and promotes the climate plan adopted by the Geneva Cantonal Council. In addition, the new light rail vehicles have a low-floor design so that they remain accessible throughout. Even the areas above the bogies can be reached without ramps or steps. Thanks to the innovative bogies with continuous axles, the Tramlink LRVs operate quietly and comfortably.

The separate standing and seating compartments create a pleasant feeling of spaciousness, while the multifunctional zones provide place for wheelchairs and bicycles. What is more, large windows contribute to the high level of passenger comfort. Stadler developed the modern design of this Tramlink model with a special front especially for TPG.

“We are pleased that Transports publics genevois has once again chosen Stadler for the expansion of its vehicle fleet. The impressive Tramlink trams operate efficiently, ensuring a sustainable and comfortable travel experience,” Christian König, Deputy Head of Sales and Marketing of Stadler said.

With the procurement of the new Tramlink light rail vehicles from Stadler, TPG is renewing its existing fleet and laying the foundation for future line extensions of the tram network. In the last 10 years, Stadler delivered TPG a total of 41 Tango trams.
