AlpTransit Gotthard has announced it has completed the first test run at 275 km/h using DB’s ICE-S train. According to the company, witihn 50 days of testing through the tunnel, more than 500 tests have been completed. In February, freight trains tests have begun.
With hundreds of train runs, AlpTransit Gotthard and Swiss Federal Railways are thoroughly testing the interplay of all tunnel components. Only when everything functions smoothly will the government authorise commercial operation.
Gotthard Base Tunnel will be opened in June 2016.
