Faiveley Transport has been awarded a contract by SATCO (Shanghai Alstom Transport Co., a JV between Alstom Transport and Shanghai Rail Traffic Equipment Development Co, Ltd) to supply hydraulic braking systems for the two first lines of the Shanghai’s Songjiang District tramway.
For the first time ever, Faiveley Transport has been awarded a contract to supply hydraulic braking systems in China. The Group will equip 30 Alstom Citadis tramways, recently awarded to Satco, which will be operated in the Songjiang southern district of Shanghai.
The tramways will run on the two first lines T1 and T2, on a total length of 31 km across 42 stations linking Songjiang new district with Sheshan tourist resort, and will carry up to 173,000 passengers per day. Operation is due to start early 2017. Six lines will be built in total, featuring 90 km of tracks and 118 stations, planned by the Songjiang District by 2020 to solve the problem of the “last kilometer” for citizens living in the area.
A number of other light rail projects are also being developed over Shanghai suburban and downtown areas, more than 40 years after the city’s tramway network was closed down. Currently, only one tramway route exists at the Zhangjiang High Tech Park in Pudong; a two lines network is planned for the Qingpu District and plans for 13 kilometers of tramways lines in downtown Shanghai have been unveiled last February. In total, Shanghai is planning to build up to 800 km of light rail lines.
