Durmazlar signs Izmit tram contract

Izmit-Kocaeli_sekapark-otogar-arasi-tramvay-hatti1The public procurement agency of Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality,Turkey, has signed a contract with Durmazlar, to supply trams for the first light rail line in Izmit, a city in northwest Turkey. Durmazlar submitted a bid of EUR 19.74 million. The five-section bi-directional Silkworm vehicles will accommodate up to 250 passengers and will have a maximum speed of 70km/h. The 7.2km east-west Akçaray line will link Otogar (Main Bus Station) and Sekapark, the ferry terminal, and is due to open in early-2017. The trams will be 32 m long, 2.65 m wide, 3.3 m high, bidirectional, 5-cars-set, with a capacity of 300 passengers and a commercial speed of 20 km/h. Durmazlar is going to start the delivery of trams after 12 months, and should complete by 17th month. Akçaray is planned to open within 2017.
