Dispatching, a solution for easing urban traffic

For the economic performance, the activity of an entire city is firstly based on the transport system which has to ensure an efficient and secure citizens and freight mobility. Therefore, carrying out the daily activity of the vehicles put in service, the permanent information of the real situation of operations and events, the possibility of creating scenarios for the provision of an uninterrupted transport, are the defining elements for the increase of the transport quality, the implementation of dispatching systems being needed for this purpose.

Dispatching ensures the traffic ease and supervision and directly comprises the performances, the efficiency and especially the safety of public transport, facilitating the operational intervention in case of incidents. “Is is obvious that, benefiting from accurate information on these events received by the communication system, it is possible to quickly and efficiently intervene, as well as to adopt and apply preventive measures for the diminution of damages”, declared Octavian Brezoi, Sales and Support Engineer at Romkatel.
The implemented system allows planning the routes of vehicles, tracking them on routes and their position in stations, sending messages to drivers of modes of transport for corrections of/on routes.
At the level of the city, dispatching optimises vehicle and transport performance since traffic dispatchers plan trams on lines, based on established diagrams and the data stored and subsequently pro-cessed allow analysing and optimising the distribution of resources for the purpose of satisfying the demand for transport.
Once the dispatching systems are implemented, the benefits are reflected in the increase of the performance and cost efficiency. “Benefits are directly related to efficiency of the activity and operating costs. The routes and intervals of the modes of transport can be permanently optimised by analysing data collected on routes and here we make reference to the number of passengers boarded in every station, the duration of the trip between stations in different moments of the day. The involved human resources are also reduced, the control activity, the analysis, the traffic planning being automated in a very high degree. The working time of conductors can be controlled much better, any break being counted”, explains the representative of Romkatel.
Therefore, the dispatching system ensures a stable traffic operation and is vital for the efficient use of resources. Counting and quantifying resources, technological components and approaching the issues in a computerised system contributes to reducing the expenses of transport operators.
