Czech Republic prepares EUR 895 million rail projects

The rail infrastructure manager in Czech Republic, SŽDC, is preparing eight reconstruction projects of the firstly modernized sections of country’s rail transit Corridors I and II.
The total estimated cost of all projects is CZK 23 billion (EUR 895.7 million) and soon a designer will be chosen and documentation for a building permit will be prepared.
According to SŽDC strategic plan for its power feed system conversion, preparations are being made for introducing the alternate current traction system with the exception of the sections between Brno and Blansko where this traction system has already been installed. Czech Republic intends to convert it’s the existing 3kV dc electric network to 25 kV AC. Almost 1800 km of railway network uses 3kV dc electric system.
The reconstruction works are planned for railway line sections which were modernized already 20 years ago or not modernized at all.
