As the core subsidiary of CRRC, CRRC Sifang is a designer, manufacturer and maintenance provider of advanced passenger railway vehicles. CRRC Sifang always endeavours to offer most valuable products and services for green, intelligent, safe, fast and convenient mobility. With annual sales of USD 6.2 billion, over 1.77 million square metres of factory space, and more than 11,000 employees, CRRC Sifang established seven product platforms, covering high-speed train, intercity and regional train, metro, passenger coach, tram, DMU and monorail vehicle from 50 km/h to 380 km/h. In the last 10 years, CRRC Sifang has developed, manufactured and delivered more than 18,000 rail vehicles to cities across China and internationally to several countries and regions including Singapore, Argentina and Hong Kong, China.
Technical innovation is at the heart of CRRC Sifang’s business. The technical fields covered include manufacturing industry, transportation equipment manufacturing, advanced manufacturing technology, and mechatronics.
CRRC Sifang has four national R&D institutes: namely the National Engineering Technology Research Centre for High Speed EMU Final Assembly, National Engineering Laboratory for High Speed Train System Integration, National R&D Centre and Post-Doctoral Programme, and a nationally recognised Metrology & Inspection Centre, mastering the key and core technologies of today’s rail transit equipment and forming a technology platform for several rolling stock products with independent intellectual property rights and different world standard systems.
CRRC Sifang boasts talented teams for technical innovation and product development covering the full range of professional categories with logical hierarchical structures. The company now has a total of 2,558 R&D staffs, including 71 doctors, 1,137 masters and 1,350 undergraduates. Among them, 94 are professor-level senior engineers, 823 are senior engineers and 1,192 are engineers from the perspective of the professional titles.
CRRC Sifang has established a Thailand-China Joint Research Centre on Railway Systems, a China-Germany Joint R&D Centre on Railway Technology (Dresden) with Dresden University of Technology and a China-UK Joint R&D Centre on Railway Technology with Imperial College London, University of Southampton and University of Birmingham, which initially constructed an international technology innovation and resource allocation system.
In addition, CRRC Sifang has established a collaborative innovation mechanism for production, education, research and application with 25 first-class universities such as Tsinghua University and Zhejiang University, and 11 first-class institutions such as the Chinese
Technical innovations and product platforms are not only for the Chinese market. CRRC Sifang also targets the overseas business as important opportunities. Since the 1960’s, CRRC Sifang has begun to export rail transit equipment. Over the years, CRRC Sifang has exported its products to over 25 countries and regions around the world. The company has established 6 subsidiaries and 9 offices abroad. The global footprint of CRRC Sifang, especially its projects with Singapore LTA, Hong Kong MTR and Chicago CTA, enriches its knowledge and experiences of designing state of-the-art products according to EN standards.
Intercity and Regional EMU CRRC. Sifang has developed and produced intercity and regional EMUs covering five speed levels of 100-120 km/h, 120-140 km/h, 140 km/h, 160 km/h and 200 km/h, four types of compositions (3-car, 4-car, 6-car and 8-car), two power supply system (AC25Kv/50Hz, DC1500), two types of vehicle gauge (metro vehicles, mainline railway vehicles). Intercity EMU features large passenger capacity, rapid and frequent starting and stop, quick boarding and alighting, superior ride comfort, safety, reliability, energy efficiency and eco-friendliness. In 2013, CRRC Sifang won intercity EMU contract of 709 vehicles from Argentina. In 2018, CRRC Sifang won intercity EMU contract of 132 vehicles from Egypt.
Metro Vehicle. CRRC Sifang has been the major R&D and manufacturing base of urban rail vehicles in China since 2003. CRRC Sifang has been awarded metro vehicle contracts with 10,921 cars by 50 lines of Beijing, Chengdu, Tianjin and so on. In 2014, CRRC Sifang won driverless metro car contract of 364 vehicles from Singapore. In 2015, CRRC Sifang won metro car contract of 744 vehicles, the largest metro vehicle order awarded by Mass Transit Railway in Hong Kong. In 2016, CRRC Sifang won metro car contract of 846 vehicles, the largest metro vehicle order awarded by Chicago Transit Authority in the US. CRRC Sifang is currently in the process of commissioning a new production facility in Chicago in the United States which will have a production capacity of over 168 vehicles per year. In 2017, CRRC Sifang won metro car contract of 64 vehicles from Brazil.
Romania is the strategic market for CRRC Sifang to expand its overseas business. In recent years, CRRC Sifang has engaged in several project tenders successively in Romania, such as Bucharest tram project, Bucharest Metro Line 5 project and Romania EMU project, etc. In March 2019, CRRC Sifang won the supply contracts for bogie, bogie frame, air-conditioner and traction system. The company hopes to promote high-quality products, services and solutions to Romania through project opportunities.
