China Railway Corporation (CRC) is interested in bidding for acquiring a stake in Polish train and tram producer Newag, in a move to expand its presence overseas, a source familiar with the matter said. It is not yet clear if CRC will bid for a majority stake in Newag. Newag has denied so far having received bids from CRC. According to Newag president and core shareholder Zbigniew Jakubas’ statement in December last year, Newag was seeing interest from strategic investors but no active sale process was yet ongoing. A strategic investor would help Newag enter new markets and bring in new technology, he said. According to specialists in the sector, among the potentially interested companies could be Stadler Rail, Skoda Transportation and CAF.
