Consultants appointed for Inland Rail

inlandAustralian Rail Track Corp awarded SMEC and Arup (SAJV) JV the contract on technical and engineering advisory services for an improved rail freight corridor between Melbourne and Brisbane – Inland Rail.
SAJV will provide a team of subject matter experts who will significantly bolster the resources of ARTC’s Inland Rail team in the delivery of approximately 1,700km of new and upgraded track.
Inland Rail would be approximately 1,700 km and will provide a competitive freight price with road. The corridor will use the existing interstate rail line through Victoria and southern NSW but will require approximately 400 km of track upgrades predominately in NSW and approximately 600 km of new track through northern NSW and south-east Queensland.
The Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Darren Chester, announced a series of appointments for the Inland Rail project with reference to Infrastructure Australia naming Inland Rail as a priority initiative.
