Colas Rail wins electrification contract in Slovenia

Slovenia’s Ministry of Transport awarded Colas Rail, with Isaf as a subcontractor, an electrification contract for the Pesnica – Sentilj – state border rail section.
The project envisages the electrification of 15.5 km and the modernisation of signalling and telecommunications network.
The contract also includes the modernisation of bridges, culverts, retaining walls, underpasses and overpasses, and upgrade works at Pesnica and Šentilj stations for the modernisation of 5.3 km of rail tracks and 11 turnouts, the construction of new platforms, canopies and pedestrian underpasses.
Within 14 months all works must be completed.
As part of the contract, Isaf will perform works on the electrification and power supply system and announced that it will complete ahead of schedule.
Slovenia’s railway network has a total length of 1,207 km, of which, 503.5 km are electrified lines, with a single electrical power supply system (3 kV).
The rail infrastructure development projects in Slovenia include, among others, the electrification of the unelectrified sections of rail lines on the Corridor V, and the modernisation of the signalling equipment for two-way traffic on double-track lines, which will allow the increasing speed on the lines to 160 km/h.
