China to invest USD 600 mln for the development of “Khorgos-Eastern Gate”

SEZ Khorgos-Eastern Gate_20111202092028The president of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) Askar Mamin and the Governor of Jiangsu Province Li Syueyun signed a framework agreement on the strategic cooperation for joint development projects of SEZ “Khorgos – Eastern Gate”, Kazakhstan, and international logistics zone SCO Lianyungang city in China.
The document provides for direct investment by China in the next five years in the amount of 600 million US dollars for the development of logistics and the establishment of industrial zones SEZ “Khorgos-Eastern Gate”.
The framework agreement is aimed at further development of the infrastructure of “Khorgos – Eastern Gate” and the port of Lianyungang, creating favorable conditions for the strengthening of trade and economic relations between the two countries and regions and the implementation of transport – transit potential.
In addition, further cooperation in the field of international railway logistics is expected. As noted in the document, the improvement of mechanisms of tariff regulation, reducing the transit time of rail freight to form a regular and competitive international block trains transport corridors.
