CFR Calatori buys new EMUs

!cid_image007_jpg@01D14A0AFor 2016 from the State budget, through the Ministry of Transport, RON100 million (EUR 22 million) are provided  for CFR Calatori, the Romanian passenger rail transport operator, for the acquisition of electric multiple units. These will be designed for the medium-distance passenger rail transport, particularly on modernized routes as Bucharest – Constanta, Bucharest – Brasov and Bucharest – Craiova.
“Starting with 2016 there are real chances to initiate the active rolling stock fleet renewal within CFR Calatori. Investments are absolutely necessary to improve the company’s services, so we can provide our passengers decent travel conditions”, Iosif Szentes, General Manager of CFR Calatori said.
CFR Calatori will invest in 2016 from own resources, the rehabilitation of 30 railcars. The first carriage was delivered at the end of 2015 and will be put in circulation in the coming period. The modernized railcars can run at a maximum speed of 160 km/h, satisfying the operating requirements of and feature air-conditioning and information systems, provinding passengers with increased comfort conditions.
CFR Calatori also has RON126 million (EUR28 million) to ensure the co-financing of the rolling stock acquisition projects funded under the Large Infrastructure Operational Programme 2014-2020 or other funding schemes.
