ČD Cargo’s locomotive suppliers announced

ČD Cargo will purchase 14 new locomotives, of which 4 Siemens Vectron locomotives and 10 Bombardier Traxx MS3 locomotives. Within the next days, the operator will sign the contracts.
These new-ordered Vectron locomotives will complement the existing 8 Vectron locomotives. According to ČD Cargo, the contract with Bombardier includes an option for additional 40 Traxx MS3 locomotives, by 2022. The 10 Traxx MS3 locomotives will be delivered in 2019 and 2020.
The fully interoperable vehicles will be operational in Czech Republic and in Germany, Austria, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary, and can be extended by Slovenia and Croatia.
“The acquisition of these interoperable locomotives supports ČD Cargo’s strategy to expand on foreign markets. Currently, we have licenses to operate in Poland, Austria, Slovakia and Hungary and the corresponding fleet will allow us to make the most of these licenses. The purchase of modern locomotives is fully in line with the approved concept of renewal and sustainability of the rolling stock,” Tomáš Tóth, the CEO of ČD Cargo said.
The programme will allow ČD Cargo to reduce travel time and to increase transport volumes, to offer more efficient transport services. The company plans to renew its rolling stock by phasing out less reliable and technically outdated locomotives. They will be replaced with modern and efficient vehicles, that are more environmentally friendly due to their efficiency and recuperative braking system.
At the beginning of this year, ČD Cargo announced its plans for the acquisition of 55 new locomotives, of which 50 multi-system electric locomotives and 5 diesel locomotives.
