Canadian Transportation Agency and Surface Transportation Board ink MoU

03-canadaOn 8 December, the Surface Transportation Board (STB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) in Ottawa to facilitate information sharing between the agencies. The CTA is the economic regulator of the freight railroads and other modes of transportation in Canada.
The purpose of this Memorandum of Understanding is to facilitate information sharing on developments in rail transportation as well as approaches and best practices related to the discharge of their adjudicative and regulatory mandates.
STB and CTA intend to exchange non-confidential information or information that may be released consistent with each participant’s respective national laws. They intend to cooperate by promoting ongoing open information exchanges through staff engagement and an annual Chair-level meeting, to be scheduled at a mutually determined date.
