Cairo: metro third phase consultancy contract signed

metro cairoSystra has won the contract to review detailed studies and supervise work on the third phase of construction of Cairo metro line 3. Systra is the representative of a grouping that comprises Egis Rail and two Egyptian consultancy firms, ACE and EHAF. The contract, valued at approximately EUR 60 million, was signed in Cairo between Tarek G.E. Galal, president of the NAT (National Authority for Tunnels), and Mahmoud Dow, director of the Middle-East Region for Systra.
“This new contract is a further development in the long history between Systra and the metro of Cairo. … We are proud to work year after year, using our technical expertise and in-depth knowledge of the local environment to help enhance mobility services for the people of Cairo, a city that is expected to reach 23 million inhabitants by 2022,” Mahmoud Dow said.
The third phase of line 3, comprising 15 stations and almost 18 km in length, will link the two banks of the Nile and will extend to the west from Attaba, where the line will split in two, serving the north and the south. Most of it will be underground (10 km), but a few sections will be above ground.
