Bogota to launch metro tender

Bogota-metro_indexThe mayor of Bogota Enrique Peñalosa announced that tendering will begin in 2017 for the construction of the first metro line in the Colombian capital, although the specification for the project has been scaled back from previous proposals.
The Colombian government is expected to provide 70% of the funding required for the project, with the remainder coming from the City of Bogota.
City officials are aiming to approve the creation of the metro’s managing company by May.
According to local media, the project would involve the development of a 30 km metro line with 31 stations. The new line is scheduled to start operations in 2021.
