Thailand Council of Ministers officially approved the Bangkok Golden Line monorail.
The 2.68 km long elevated monorail will run in Western Bangkok. The monorail will run on an elevated track and will hopefully ease traffic congestion in Thon Buri.
The project will be developed in two phases:
Phase 1 – 1.72 km from Krung Thon Buri Skytrain station to Taksin Hospital, planned to start operation in 2018
Phase 2 – 0.96 km from Taksin Hospital to Wat Anongkaram, currently scheduled for operation in 2023
With Phase 2 implemented the line will connect to the Purple Line. Each train will have 3 cars, with each car transporting 80 – 100 passengers.
