Astana light rail to be constructed by Chinese companies

Astana LRTAstana Municipality represented by Astana LRT LLP, and the Consortium, including China Railway International Group Limited and Beijing State-Owned Assets Management Co., Ltd. signed a framework agreement for the construction of the first stage of light rail project.
The agreement provides arrangements between the parties within a number of issues about the future joint Light Rail Transport system construction.
“This project is a priority not only for Astana, but for the entire Kazakhstan. The signing of the Framework Agreement will allow starting practical implementation of the project and will allow successfully implementing it in Astana through the joint efforts”, Akim of Astana, Adilbek Zhaksybekov said.
Light Rail of Astana is an improved passenger 100-percent elevated railway system with rolling stock designed to operate off-street. The system with the length of 22.4 km from Astana International Airport to the new railway station provides 18 stations, one depot, 19 units of rolling stock, technical speed of which will be 40 km/h, passenger traffic – 83 thousand people a day.
