Ankara to extend the metro network

Ankara-metro_s-198bff71c99f175426ca1e4cdfab3a4bbd534d6ejpgAccording to the Transport Master Plan, 55 kilometers will be added to the existing metro lines in Ankara Metropolitan Area from 2013 to 2038 and this will increase the Capital’s metro network to 600 kilometers.
The Mayor of Ankara, Melih Gökçek, says that the Transport Master Plan for the above mentioned period envisages the construction of 11 new metro lines, in Ankara and in the Metropolitan Area.
Currently, Ankara’s rapid transit system consists of four metro lines – the light rail Ankaray line, the Batıkent Metrosu (M1) line, and two lines newly opened in 2014, the Koru Metrosu (M2) and Törekent Metrosu (M3) lines. The Ankaray, the M1 lines, and the newly opened M2 and M3 lines, together transported 104.1 million passengers in 2014.
