Albania wants to improve rail infrastructure

Albania_indexAlbanian Government is pushing for internal railway transport connections which lead to its ports, but also with neighbouring Macedonia, Kosovo and Montenegro and is counting on financial support from European banks.
The railway network in Albania is composed of 441 km of primary railways and 230 km secondary railways. Main priority is the reactivation of the railway network through leverage of private capital and financing international institutions as well as various donors.
Due to a long period of under-investment, maintenance works have been limited to essential work, with the result that track is in workable, but poor condition.
