Agreement on Belgrade-Niš modernisation signed

Serbian Minister of Transport, Zorana Mihajlović, and China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the modernisation and reconstruction works on Belgrade-Niš railway line.
“The reconstruction of the Belgrade-Niš railway line is important primarily for Serbia, but it is also necessary for a better connection of railway networks throughout the region, in order to have an efficient and fast rail link in the whole transport system from Budapest to Piraeus,” Mihajlovic said.
The minister said that the first step for the implementation of the project is the elaboration of the needed documentation for the modernisation and reconstruction of 198 km, estimated at EUR 600 million.
Projects on rail modernisation in Serbia are underway, with most of them involving the Corridor 10, which provides transport connection to the European railway network. At the beginning of 2017, country’s rail infrastructure manager and China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) signed a EUR 23.8 million contract for the reconstruction of 7.5-km rail section (Rasputnica G – Rakovica – Resnik section) of the Belgrade-Nis line.
