Afghanistan approves the fourth phase of Khwaf – Herat line

Afghanistan National Procurement Commission approved the design and construction of a 43-km first phase of the fourth section of Khwaf – Herat railway line, from Ghoryan district to Rabat Paryan.
The section will be constructed by Kazakhstani Company from development budget of Afghan Government.
The Khawaf-Herat railway project is implemented within four phases and envisages 225 km. The construction of the first and second sections with a total length of 76 km were recently completed in Iran. Currently construction works are carried out on the third section from the border (with Iran) to Ghoryan district, totaling 62 km. the Afghanistan Railway Authority announced that this section will soon be opened.
The Khaf-Herat 139-km line is part of Iran-Afghanistan rail corridor which will improve and develop the railway freight traffic between Central Asia, China and Russia.
