Design tender for Vilnius node launched

Vilnius railway nodeLithuania’s rail infrastructure manager LTG Infra has launched the design tender for Vilnius railway node which will be situated on the Kaunas – Vilnius connection on the Rail Baltica.  The contract expected to be awarded the third quarter of this year.

The procurement procedure includes the Vilnius passenger station, which will become the international Rail Baltica station for passenger services, the regional stations of Vilnius Airport and Lentvaris, the Vilnius intermodal terminal for cargo services, freight train 1435 mm route, and connecting and approach railway roads.

The successful tenderer will be responsible for the design of these facilities and their infrastructure, such as railway bridges, road overpasses, ecoducts, pedestrian underpasses and pedestrian bridges, and railway tunnels, the longest of which is expected to be 1.10 km. The halls of Vilnius and Lentvaris stations will not be changed. They will be adapted to the needs of passengers travelling on the Rail Baltica railway.

“The renewal of the Vilnius railway node is an integral part of the entire project, which will create added value for the project in global terms. It is expected that the infrastructure of the Vilnius railway node will annually serve about 2.3 million passengers and carry 8.6 million tonnes of cargo,” Dovydas Palaima, General Manager at LTG Infra Rail Baltica Management said.

In January, LTG Infra also announced the infrastructure tender for the Kaunas railway node and the design tenders for the regional stations in Kaišiadorys and Vievis. Kaunas node will have a rail infrastructure of 110 km, 83 km being designed as high-speed track and 27 km will be combined tracks of facilities and freight yard. The node will also include five new railway viaducts and two new bridges over the Jiesia River. The contracts with successful tenders are planned to be signed in the second quarter of this year.
