ZEFIRO, the star of Bombardier’s exhibit at Innotrans 2010

During September 21-24, 2010, Bombardier Transportation attended the largest railway event of the year: Innotrans 2010. The manufacturer showcased the latest innovations in terms of railway technology.
The most appreciated innovation was ZEFIRO, Bombardier’s trademark platform for High Speed Rail (HSR). Under the motto “The Fastest Way to Save the Planet”, Bombardier’s exhibit aimed at raising awareness about the positive impact that rail transport has on environmental protection and energy saving. The innovations showcased are designed to protect the environment. The new systems complete the ECO4 package, which now includes a total of 15 products. ECO4 is designed to reduce energy consumption and pollution.

Bombardier’s objective is to support modal shift in transport and attract more passengers and freight towards rail transport, urban rail transport and other less polluting modes of transport. The most appreciated product showcased by Bombardier during this year’s exhibit in Berlin was ZEFIRO, the new high-speed train which is currently at high demand on the international market. The V300 model has already been ordered by national Italian operator Trenitalia, while the CRH1 model has been ordered by various companies from China. Bombardier wanted to promote the eco-friendly features of the new ZEFIRO platform, which is currently the most eco-friendly and energy-saving high-speed train in the world. ZEFIRO includes models that are able to run at speeds of 250-380 km/h and which can be adapted to any type of infrastructure in the world.
During Innotrans 2010, Bombardier showcased three new systems that will be included in the ECO4 package. EcoSilent Optimised Train Sound (ESOTS) is an efficient system used in the acoustic train design, due to which railway vehicles will become the most silent vehicles. EnerGstor Wayside Energy Storage (EGWES) is a system based on ultracapacitor technology, which stores the energy used in braking and recycles it back into the fuel system. EcoEfficient Optimised Environmental Performance (EEOEP) is a package of solutions which analyses the environmental protection performance of a product during its lifecycle, improving the use of high risk materials (flammable, breakable etc.).

The first diesel locomotive ordered in Poland after 20 years, showcased in Berlin

Among the products showcased by Bombardier during this year’s edition of Innotrans we could also find the OMNEO duplex unit designed for the Regio2N project (France) and which brings many innovations in terms of comfort and interior design; the ALP-45 Dual-Power locomotive designed for the North-American market and based on the MITRAC Hybrid technology, which is compatible with both electrified and diesel lines and which saves up to 40% in energy and generates 80% less polluting emissions and CO2; the new TRAXX diesel locomotive acquired by Polish operator Lotos Kolej – the first acquisition of new diesel locomotives in Poland after 20 years; the PRIMOVE system, which allows trams to operate without an overhead catenary power supply; the ERTMS Level 2 INTERFLO 450 system, designed to ensure the secure signalling of high-speed networks (350 km/h) and which has already been installed in China etc. One of the largest international leaders in railway industry, Berlin-based Bombardier Transportation is currently developing operations in 59 production and design facilities in 23 countries. Moreover, Bombardier is present at the project implementation locations of customers around the world through more than 40 assistance offices. Bombardier’s main objective is environment protection. The products and services provided by the company exceptionally combine energy saving and safety, availability and optimum efficiency. They are designed to provide a high level of sustainable mobility throughout their lifecycle.
