UK: Hackney Wick Overground station set for transformation

UK CGI Hackney Wick station entrance-1Works are underway on a £25 million (€29 million) scheme to transform Hackney Wick Overground station and deliver major improvements for Londoners and businesses in the surrounding area.
Network Rail is delivering the project, on behalf of the London Legacy Development Corporation, which will see a new subway running north to south beneath the existing railway line replacing the existing footbridge and opening up new pedestrian and cycle links from Wallis Road through to White Post Lane. The subway, currently being built on land next to the station, will be driven into position in spring 2017. The station is due to be complete in January 2018.
Tower Hamlets Council and Hackney Council have both contributed £1 million (€1.12 million) towards the refurbishment of the station which is expected to generate opportunities including new jobs, investment and affordable housing.
