Turkish company wins Casablanca Tramway Line 2 contract

Casablanca tramvai_indexTurkish Yapi Merkezi company won Casablanca Tramway Line 2 contract. Yapi Merkezi  had already participated in the realization of the first tram line, between 2010 and 2013. The award of this new contract, worth EUR 83 million, follows the call for tenders launched by Casa-Transport, the public authority in charge of infrastructure, at the beginning of 2016. The other four candidates were a Makyol Turkish group, two Moroccan groups namely Colas Rail – Colas Morocco – GTR on the one hand and the General Society Work – TSO (NGE) on the other, and finally the luso-Moroccan grouping Somafel – Seprob.
„The expected duration of the Casablanca T2 construction is 29 months, and it should begin in 2018. It includes 14 633 meters of rail lines through 20 stations across 25 intersections„ Casablanca Municipal Roads and Transport Director,  Muhammed Burahim said. This second tramway line is an East-West route, and is a continuation of the first Casablanca tram line, T1.
This second line will be equipped as the first tram Citadis of Alstom, as per the signed agreement between the Moroccan and french Governments.
