Sofia metro could have an additional station

American investors are interested in building a station on the Sofia’s metro network, between the ones existing on Slivnitsa Blvd and Obelya. The construction of another station will cost nearly BGN 24 million (EUR 12.2 million). Several years ago, the investors acquired land between the Lyulin and Obelya neighborhoods for residential development and need access to the subway network for that land, hence the plan for a new station.
The investors propose to give over 50% of the required amount and the rest of the money will have to be paid by Sofia Municipality. The idea is supported by both the ruling party and the opposition. The new metro station could be ready in 2020, and another 8,000 passengers will benefit from it. It is expected that the project will receive a green light.
